From a little poem called Poem Number Thirty Four.

Becky's getting bored.
Becky is tired of staying digital. (but secretly wants to do animation!)

*sigh*
Ever since I came back from my two week escape to my grandma's house in Holland to do non stop painting, i haven't touched any of the illustrations. They're sitting in my room, still packed in a few layers of protective plastic, waiting for me to spend quality time with them. I have books I want to make, and I'm making everything else except that.
I've been asked to create more and more websites -- and it's pretty fast, fun and easy for me, specially with guidance from my brother Danny who's a programmer. And though I find meaning in working for each of these sites, I want next year to be a lot more organic.

Back away from the computer Becky or I'll place small open electric circuits embedded in the keyboard! Be Gone!

I see my own problem and it's just a matter of it fixing itself. I've said yes to too many projects, and they've come together all at once. Next year is a year of NOs! very wise, healthy NOs! (once the projects can stand on their own two feet)

something small I sketched recently for Shubha's event

The drawing that's waiting for me. (it has 10 brothers and 9 sisters!) 20 pages in total.

something I painted when I was 17. I don't know where the painting's gone. oh well

It's been a pretty good summer and I've thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks of the heat wave. The sun brings about a natural optimism which I love. Now I need to regroup all the different sides of me and figure out what to do next. I need to streamline my vision for the next year and to do that I'm going to take a break from work and go back to some simplified creativity, scribbling on a notebook, splashing watercolor around and maybe a lot of paper cutting and gluing.

I find that my best ideas come when I play. Stop thinking too hard and just have fun Becky!

I've also got a renewed interest for very organic creation so at the moment, though I'm still trying to refine my very digital images, I want to sort of do the complete opposite and become more chaotic. I love all the wonderful natural textures around us. It's extremely hard to recreate that though.

Above is a picture of me with another Rebecca who has the same birthday as me. Woohoo! Fellow Aquarian.

Fixing back lights for my mother mary (she looks enormous!). I was so sick that day.

Michael Blann and Phil Ashely working on the stunning film camera in Brighton

I notice I write as seasons change. THANK GOD THE SUN'S BACK. And hopefully my string of colds will disappear too.  The sun's bringing in a lot of optimism on new projects. I
feel like I'm ready to burst with a whole new wave of imagery that is nothing like what I've done before. I had a small project recently with a Dutch client and he gave me a lot of creative freedom, and I felt like a kid again, painting and shooting and retouching.
I can't wait to do more!

It's been a bit over a year now that I've been steady in London, and I'm very grateful for all the people I come across who have the same vision on creating a picture. Michael and Phil, two ace photographers I've met through Getty Images are really dedicated to making each shot excellent -- something I can always learn from. I can't stress enough how important a team is in creating any image, and if you look through my gallery, there are normally at least 3 people involved... from assisting to doing the makeup, digital checks, etc (teams tend to get much larger than that though). It's in a team that dares to be a little crazy, that the energy of the shoot goes up, and the quality of photos become remarkable. I'm so grateful for everyone who listens to my crazy thoughts and really carries them out. I'm also very grateful for everyone that shares thoughts, and morphs a concept into something even more powerful. Collaboration is the shiznit!
It's amazing, really.

In a few months I'll be launching another company where I'll showcase the other side of what I do, which is a lot more graphic design and illustration based.  I do show some of it here, but I know for sure it must confuse a lot of you who read "photography" as the banner and see all sorts of oddities. Another site will fix that confusion.

I hope everyone had a nice Easter holiday. I'm enjoying a few days of sleeping until I naturally wake up, and that seems to have halted my string of colds.
Hurah! ...until the next season...
